Thrushes (Turdidae) Galleries

Wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe) : These birds migrate between Africa - Europe and Iceland . In Britain they breed in Wales, Ireland and NW England to the Scottish Highlands. They prefer relatively high ground and open fields with rocky outcrops.
Migrants are seen late Feb/March and again Sept/Oct in Langstone Harbour. They spend a lot of time feeding on the sea shore and the coastal paths. They are not very timid, as you approach they will fly off a short distance and land again. In flight they show off their white rump which the wings cover when at rest.
It's always a pleasure to meet these handsome birds. When seen, you know the seasons are changing.
