Chatley Heath Introduction

Chatley Heath occupies about 700 acres of heath and forest land. Access to this site is from the Ockham Services located on New Lane which is a short distance along the slip road to the Southbound carriageway of the A3.

The heath also houses an octagonal semaphore tower which was part of a chain of such towers allowing the Admiralty to communicate with Portsmouth Dockyard more speedily than sending messengers on horseback.

Ockham Services is also a very popular stopping off point for those travelling South towards Portsmouth. It has a large car park set within woodland, toilets, visitor centre and catering facilities.

Please note, these facilities are NOT available 24 hours.

These horses were transported to the car park and the riders enjoyed a couple of hours using the bridle-ways around the heath.
