Welcome to my site.
A little about me.
My interest in nature began when I was in Slim School, Cameron Highlands, Malaya (Now Malaysia) in the 1950's. I spent most of my free time in the surrounding jungle and plantations seeking butterflies, lizards, beetles and snakes (Taking care to ensure I only caught grass snakes though!). I created a beautiful butterfly collection but alas, this has fallen victim to the dreaded Museum mites. My 3 year stay at this boarding school formed the basis of my love of nature that has been with me throughout my adult life. I also fell in love with the country and was delighted that my first posting in the 1960's was to Singapore and I was able to re-visit the areas I had grown so fond of. The School had closed and a major dam had been built in the Cameron Highlands. Tanah Rata (the nearest town to the school) had not changed much and the jungle walks were all still there.
My working life was far too busy for me to continue actively pursuing my interest in Nature but I took early retirement in 2003 and in 2007 I eventually had time to take it up again.
Times change. If digital cameras were about in my earlier days how different things would be. Today, instead of physically capturing items to create a collection we take digital images. It gives me great pleasure to be able to come into contact with interesting subjects, share the moment in an image and part company without much disturbance. The collection of images is far more durable than the mounted specimens I used to keep and you see them in context.
Since starting this venture, I have had to learn a number of new skills and have to acknowledge the support and encouragement I have received from a number of websites which I would like to share with you here.
