Progress on changes has slowed somewhat and for that I apologise.
My dearly loved companion, Blade, died at the end of January 2011 of a heart problem. He was a Long-haired German Shepherd. We fought hard to try and save him but alas he died at 8 years old. Further images of him are in my pets section. Rest in peace my friend.
My new Olympus E5 camera is now part of my toolkit and is seeing far more use than the E3 which now is used as a backup and is fitted with the 12-60mm or 150mm Macro. The E5 does the heavy work with the 50-500mm lens. The Olympus E500 has now been retired and has been handed to my son and daughter to share.
The Olympus E5 test pages have been a very significant source of interest to visitors. For this reason, you will find they now have their own home page and Sub sections covering the lenses used and performance aspects tested.
I have made a start on the Birds section, creating link galleries similar to the Invertebrate section. Navigating through this section will become a much improved and informative experience
Link galleries continue to be introduced, grouping images into Order and Families which will result in further simplification of the drop down menu system and better understanding of species.
This approach is to try and move away from just photo archives and is based on my experience as to what works well when posting into a forum. The style of these is to provide picture story boards combining additional information about a location and images from the archive to illustrate these pages. Google maps are also provided to locate the sites and give informion on 'how to get there'.
To ensure these are properly integrated with the site as a whole, the 'HOME' option on the menu has been re-named to 'HOME PAGES' and is now a drop down. The individual HOME pages can now be accessed from here.
There are currently five Mini HOME and the Main HOME pages available under this option. One of which leads to the E5 Test Images.
I am in the process of adding better descriptions to each image. I know a picture is worth a thousand words but some words are helpful. I guess you will appreciate that this requires a lot of research and this will take some time to complete.
The Wildlife/Birds pages are currently in work and are being modified as has been done with the Wildlife/Invertebrates.Perching Birds completed 17 Nov 2010, Birds of Prey split into two orders and completed Jan 2011, Gannets, Cormorants and Pelicans completed 12 Feb 2011, Grebes completed 13 Feb 2011, Waders, Gulls and Tern completed 18 Feb 2011, Aquatic Birds (Anseriformes) - Ducks, Swans and Geese completed 01 April 2012 and the menu is now simplified as a result. Other bird 'Orders' remain in work.
Flaura and Fauna pages to be added to the Oysterbed mini site.Completed 14 Nov 2010
The Wildlife/Invertebrate pages have now been completed with link galleries leading to species.
A full list of link pages can be found here.
The changes I am carrying out are to improve things for you the visitor. Having said that, I am enjoying the challenge and I am learning a lot from it so it is not one-sided. If you feel you have some constructive comments please let me know. You can leave comments in my guestbook or, if you prefer, email. me. I look forward to receiving your suggestions.
Let's hope it gets good ones soon!
