Honey Bee (Apis mellifera)
Ants-Wasps-Bees (Hymenoptera) > Bees (Apidae) > Honey Bee (Apis mellifera)
In UK, the Honeybee is the only bee species with a "corbiculum" on the hind leg. This is a flattened polished area on the hind tibia that is framed with long hairs, and is used for carrying the pollen. Note also the rather flattened mid basitarsus and the hairy eyes (the latter is not unique to honeybees, but will distinguish them from superficially similar Andrena or Colletes).1 / 21
