Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa)

Waders, Gulls and Auks (Charadriiformes) > Sandpipers (Scolopacidae) > Godwit (Genus Limosa) > Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa)

Breeds on wet meadows, grassy marshes, boggy moorland. Resident all year on South Coast, with numbers swelling over winter with migrants returning from the north.

This flock were on the mud flats between the road bridge and the remains of the railway bridge, North Hayling. The tide was coming in and within 30 mins, all of this area was covered in water. These birds left to roost at Farlington Marshes (approx 2 flying miles away) about 15mins after this shot was taken
