Range: Europe, Middle East,, eastwards through temperate Asia to Japan. Flight Period: Univoltine. Late March/June. Habitat: Diverse. Damp meadows, marshes, dry lowland scrub, forest clearings, alpine grassland. On acidic or base rich soils. Larval host plant: Cardemines pretensis, Alleria petiolata, Arabis turrita, Lunaria annau, Biscutella mollis, Hesperis lacinata.. Hibernates as a pupa on plant stems.

    The female orange tip is showing the male that she has been fertilised. It is something which you can see quite often once you have seen the display a few times. I haven't yet seen the opposite display, if there is one. Nicely shot! Peter
