Volucella inanis
True Flies (Diptera) > Hoverfly (Syrphidae) > Volucella inanis
This fly is very similar to Volucella zonaria but smaller at 12.25 - 14.25mm. Other Physical differences are that the second sternite (On abdomen) is yellow and not Chestnut Brown. The second sternite on the underside is a yellow 'V' and not black. The wings are less amber infused.
The adults are often seen feeding on nectar from flowers. The larvae are ectoparasites on larvae of social wasps.
