They do tend to start young! Not yet big enough to hold the vice jaws closed without a little help.
  • 10 July 2011 Woodcraft fair 2011. The skillfull art of thatching. The sign proclaims '10,000 years of thatcherism'. An interesting play on words!. It is surprising how, even now, to enter villiages in England and still see thatched cottages. A wonderful living legacy.

Ideal to take into the forest and cut the timber without the additional eonomic and environmental costs of trucking the tree trunks to the saw mill. The saw dust and bark become ideal habitats for invertebrates which provide an additional souce of food for the birds etc. Over time, the rotting timber returns nutrients etc to the soil. A win win.
