  • Mallard (Anus platyrhynchos). Copyright 2009 Peter DruryThis shot was taken with the poor light conditions of late afternoon. Flight shots at fl 500mm should have been out of the question. The shutter speed fell to 1/125s and this was hand held. The background reeds provide the impact of a fast flying duck which I was panning as it moved. Motion in the wings can also be seen the closer you get to the tips. Rather than bin it I have decided it is a keeper. What do you think?<br />

The marshes extend out to the North of Langstone Harbour. This view comprises of 12 frames stitched together and is looking approximately south. The path to the right is a public walkway which takes you around the perimeter of the marshes. The sea wall and harbour are immediately to the right of this footpath. The lake in the centre is one of two large lagoons and is one of the havens for waders, geese, ducks and gulls at high tide. A number of off shore islands in the harbour are also used for roosting at high tide. The dark area of land in the distance is Hayling Island.

Nice shot, Peter. Like the reeds in the foreground, the reflection and, of course, the egret. By the way, what's the difference between the "Little Egret" and a "Snowy?"

Great shot! I like the warm color and how it is composed. Well done on getting a good exposure of a white bird.
