The Royal Oak public house was originally three cottages built in 1555 and converted to a Public House and licensed in 1700. There are tales that this public house was once the haunt of smugglers.

These buildings were originally part of the mill complex at Langstone with a jetty for the transhipment of grain and flour. They date back to the 18th century. The old windmill is still in existance and is seen on the right. This was built approx. 1730, became derelict about 1934 and has since been converted into a private dwelling. The mill itself was a tide mill and it too has now been converted into a private dwelling.

The building dates back to the 18th century as do the other buildings on the waterfront. The original purpose was a grain store serving the wharf. The original wheel still exists and is mounted in the upper bar area. The car park extends over what was the wharf side.
The present day use is a public bar with seating available outside. On a good day, beautiful views of Chichester Harbour can be had.
There is easy access from the main road between Hayling Island and Havant as it is located on the north end of the bridge.

Always looking for somewhere comfortable to rest. I would not want to clean the cover though!
