  • Garden Spider (Araneus diadematus) Web and Spider. Copyright 2009 Peter Drury<br /> Following a cold night, moisture has collected on the web outlining the way in which it has been constructed. The spider is in the centre of the web with each of its eight legs positioned on a 'trip wire'. Any vibrations caused by an insect (or anything else) coming into contact with the web will set up vibrations and create an immediate response from the spider. These vibrations in the 'trip wires' tell the spider the position of its potential prey without it having to see it.
