A detailed view of the piston and valve gear of the loco. This illustrates the guiding principle for aal Standard BR types, to make things accessable to cut down maintenance costs. This loco had a very short BR career before being sold for scrap. A real tragedy. On the plus side, the shed staff must be congratulated for their cleaning of this loco. It almost looks new!

With the train halted at the Up platform, the passengers start to embark.

No steam railway images are complete without one like this. As the locomotive passed under the footbridge the smoke and steam shroud the air as in this shot. It reminds me of my boyhood years at Milford Junction when I spent hours taking numbers and dashing to where the loco would pass under. The smell was something to witness. The only trouble was I and my clothes would end up black and smelly. I must have had very understanding parents.

With all the passengers disembarked, the locomotive pushes the stock back towards the Down siding at the end of the line. This is a very unusual movement as the train would normally arrive in the Up platform and this move would be unnecessary. It was a planned move for this train however.
